Education Priority in the USA ?

Nintendo spent $140 Million in R& D in 2002.

The US Government spent less than half that much in research and innovation in education.

Every time the government spends a dollar on "improving" education they end up screwing it up. Remember how the education bureaucracy jumped on the "whole language" bandwagon during the 80s/90s? And how much it sucked?

It isn't hard to figure out how to teach children. We've been doing it for thousands of years. Hell, we even did it before there was an NEA or a Department of Education. Shit, Lincoln did it to himself with a goddamn coal shovel. Do we really need to pour billions of dollars into research and innovation? Or should we just stop screwing around and just teach them something?

I'd guarantee you that if we fired the bottom 25% performing teachers that grade point averages would be up 10% the following year. Now, for that bit of research and innovation, I'll take a few mil, thanks.

Have you seen the Wii?
Have you seen the US Education system?

Nintendo gets a heckuva lot more bang for it's buck than we do our education system.
